First of all a big thank you to Mr. Kumar, the AK Academy and its great team, in providing a great platform for all henna artists/makeup artists to stand proudly from and continue their amazing journeys. Taking the AK Henna Course June 2011 was an exceptional experience for me as I had little or no exposure to the wonderful world of henna. As a novice I have learnt much from the course and the mentorship of Mr. Kumar on my one to ones.

I started off with the henna course and I loved it! The time went by so fast and I learned so much. I had only applied henna once before so I didn't have much experience. I walked into the AK studio not knowing the full extent of which my abilities were to be tested. The 8-day Hair and Makeup course not only educated us but, more importantly made the whole experience worthwhile. The vibrancy, color, atmosphere, the people, our brilliant educator and of course Mr. Kumar himself – all fit in place like a jigsaw puzzle.

I had always been interested in hair and make-up, but I had not really thought about it as a career option. I enrolled into the 8 day make-up and hair course at first for the learning experience and to obtain the skill set out of interest. I first decided I wanted to start an Ash Kumar course in January 2011, I remember feeling uncertain if it was the right thing to do, especially as I had never picked up a henna cone before (except to pass it to someone else!) I attended the Day 1 henna with Mr Kumar as my educator and decided that it was so right that I signed up to the rest of the course and the total look course that same day.

I recall my first memory of applying henna on my hands at the age of 7 years old. The affordability for my parents to purchase henna powder was zero to none. Sitting in the back garden of my parent’s house in London, England I decided to pluck a few green leaves from the nearest bush. Grinding down these green leaves with a stone which I retrieved from the garden,then adding water to the mixture

I did Mehndi even before I did this course, but I did not have the confidence to represent myself as a professional. This course totally changed my life and my perspective of looking at mehndi as a profession. I did the course in June 2012 in NY..... my instructor was Shafeena!!! On the first day when I walked in and met her, saw the menhdi she did on her hand, the first thought came into my mind, “This is it, I am at the right place”.

This was difficult initially as there are so many to choose from; however, as I did my research the Ash Kumar Academy really stood out! Two months after the mehendi class, I started to get bookings for various events and the rest is history. I was able to do mehendi at Zee Tv's table at the Diwali Mela this past October and another event was at Google's office in New York City.Then May 2011 came around and I just was so excited to take the 8-day course as well.
